Rishikanth's career has been shaped by two very different worlds: the short-format YouTube sketch and the large-scale Tamil feature. Tamil cinema, the Chennai-based industry that produces films in the Tamil language, has always drawn talent from outside its traditional pipelines. Rishikanth's path, from digital comedy to big productions, shows how that pipeline has changed.
A word on vocabulary for readers outside the region. "Lead role" means the character a film is built around, as opposed to a supporting part. "Ensemble" means a cast of many significant roles rather than one or two. "Slice of life" describes a film that favours everyday texture over a single dramatic plot. These three terms come up again and again when tracing this body of work.

From Shorts to the Big Screen
The confirmed filmography opens with Bench Talkies (2015), an anthology format that gave several performers a first foothold in feature-length Tamil film. An anthology is a film made of separate short stories bundled together, often with different directors, so a newcomer can appear in one segment without carrying an entire feature. Then came Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal (2022). The title translates as "Some People at Some Times," and the film belongs to a strand of Tamil cinema that follows several unconnected lives at once, an ensemble approach where the connections emerge slowly. Rishikanth appears as Murali.
Smaller films followed, among them Buffoon Kadhal (2021), Irumbu Thirai (2018), Rocky (2021) and Hero (2019). Rocky is a revenge drama, and Rishikanth appears as Udhay, the son of a character called Manimaran, which places him inside the family stakes that drive the plot. Oodal (2023) continues the run of smaller-scale titles. Read as a group, these credits show a performer learning the craft in modest productions, taking whatever part moves the story forward rather than waiting for the centre of the frame.
Two large-scale films then put Rishikanth in front of a much wider audience: Indian 2: Zero Tolerance (2024), in which he appears as Harish, and Coolie (2025), in which he plays Rishi. Coolie follows Deva, a man drawn into a criminal network after a friend's suspicious death. Roles of this kind are often described as "character parts": smaller in screen time than the lead, but important to the plot. Working on productions of that size gives a performer a visibility smaller films cannot, and it is a common route for a digital-era newcomer to be seen by audiences who never watch sketches online.
A Run of Leads and the Roles That Recur
The year 2026 saw Rishikanth step into leading parts, and the three films together are the clearest statement of what he is drawn to. In Modha Rathri (2026) he plays Maruthanayagam, known as Maruthu. The film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers, a production house with a strong record in South Indian cinema. Its story gathers two strangers at an unusual wedding where, over one night, lies and surprises spiral into chaos.
In Dorothy (2026) he is Karthik. The film is set in rural Tamil Nadu in a world shaped by caste, violence and toxic masculinity, and follows two childhood friends whose lives are changed by the arrival of Dorothy, a woman whose compassion quietly challenges the world around them. Made in Korea (2026) casts him as Mani. The story follows a woman from a small Tamil Nadu town who moves to South Korea, a place she always dreamed of, and struggles to find her footing in a foreign land.

Read together, these roles suggest a performer drawn to stories about ordinary people under pressure: a wedding night that will not hold together, a friendship tested by the society around it, a dream of elsewhere that does not go to plan. That is a recognisable thread across a filmography that otherwise moves between comedy, revenge drama and large-scale action. It is also the thread that connects the small films to the big ones, since a character part in a tentpole production demands the same instinct for ordinary behaviour that a lead in a story-driven film demands at greater length.
